  4. Hello, fellow Macintosh user.  I wrote WendyComm because (a) I needed a terminal emulator and (b) I didn't want to use a pirated copy of someone else's program.

  6. This documentation file was created with Apple's SimpleText, and if you use it to read this, it will look much better (different fonts, etc.)

WendyComm uses the Communications Toolbox, which is built into System 7.  I didn't feel like supporting all the System 6 necessities as well as the System 7 stuff, so I made WendyComm dependent on having System 7 or higher.  I can't distribute any Communications Toolbox tools with WendyComm, but you can get a copy of Apple's basic set of tools via Internet ftp at ftp.austin.apple.com:

  13. I highly recommend Mark/Space Softworks' ZMODEM file transfer tool.  You can get a demo version of it via Internet ftp at ftp.netcom.com:

The filename may be slightly different, because Mark/Space probably has updated the tool by the time you read this.  This is a demonstration version, which only allows you to download (receive) files.  You can order a full version directly from Mark/Space; the order form can be created from within the setup dialog for the demo tool.

  20. Using WendyComm

  22. WendyComm is very easy to use, due to its severe lack of features.  :-)

Just start it up, configure your connection, terminal, and file transfer tools, and go to it.  Your settings will not be preserved when you quit unless you choose "Save Settings" from the Settings menu.  This is to make it easy to make temporary changes to your settings.  You will notice there is an indicator at the top left of the WendyComm window which tells you what the state of the connection tool is, and if you're connected, how long you've been connected.

  26. Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to create a scrollback buffer, text capture, dialing directory, multiple windows or other nice features.  So, consider it as a good terminal emulator, and not as a bad communications program, eh?  Hey, at least it's under 40K!

  28. If you need a program which has all the bells and whistles, consider using Mark/Space Softworks' Communicate Lite, a demo version of which is available at the same ftp site as the ZMODEM tool described above.
